It was Ann Knoll's comment on Cornwallis and a mystery video tape given to me by Ellen Stanton that started me thinking about what has now become a profile on the Allen Family of Baldwinsville, New York.

From 1935 until about 1945 the Charles Edward (C.E.) Allen family maintained a band of broodmares north of Syracuse, joined early on by the Morgan Stallion Cornwallis.

This month's profile is unique in that we're able to marry old film of the farm and the Morgan horses that were there with wonderful commentary by Bob Allen, son of Charles Edward.  Some of the film clips have never been viewed, while others were transferred to VHS in the 1980's at the urging of Charlie Kollenkark (Char-Kol's Morgans) a family friend of the Allen's.

The film saw some private viewings, but was never available in any public way, and many of the horses and people went unidentified.

Prominently shown in the movie footage is Bob, and he is now in his 80's and lives near Philadelphia, PA.  During a visit with him this past spring I was able to learn more about this exciting chapter in New York Morgan history and he was happy to share his fond memories of what was a "family affair."

Enjoy...

I'd like to take a moment to thank Sue McManus, Museum Director of the Shacksboro Schoolhouse, Baldwinsville, NY for her help in providing invaluable background on Indian Spring Farm and the Allen family.  It was Sue that provided the photography of the farm during the pre-Allen days as well as present day photos of the home formerly occupied by the Allens.  You can learn more about the Shacksboro Schoolhouse and the current Peony project by visiting this link.    Thanks again Sue!
