Charles Edward Allen

C.E. Allen was born on a farm in 1893 in Linwood, NY and at an early age left home to sell Jell-O door to door in nearby Leroy.  His original entry into sales led him to become a salesman for the Aluminum Cooking Utensil Company (manufacturer of the well know "Wear-Ever" cookware) where he was employed for 34 years.

He handled all of New York State with the exception of New York City. Charlie married Mary Holcomb.  Mary was from Binghamton, NY and was a kind hearted woman with a love for her children, but not a horseperson.  In fact neither of the Allen parents were.

Here Bob talks about his father and mother and you can view film of mom lunging a very young Allen's Major

Three children made up the Allen brood, Elizabeth (Betty and born in 1918), Edward (born in 1920) and Bob (born in 1924.)

Bob recalls that the family association with horses began with Edward's unruly behavior as an adolescent.  It was decided that getting Ed a pony might give him some focus and settle him down.  And that was the beginning...

Listen to Bob's thoughts on the above...
