But I'm getting ahead of myself... Using AMHA registry records, it would seem that the chestnut mare Gill (foaled in July of 1926 out of Mansfield x Sentinel Lass and listed as being bred by Sentinel Pine Orchards, Shoreham, VT) was the first Morgan that was associated with the Allen family. And the first foal registered by the Allens was her filly, Indian Maid (a chestnut born in 1930.) Gill was bred by C.H. MacVey of Canton, NY, producing Indian Maid, and then the transfer of ownership is recorded as May 2, 1937. According to an account in the Syracuse newspapers the Allen family had a "stock" farm in Fayetteville, NY prior to moving to Baldwinsville and it's possible that Gill and Indian Maid were kept there. Gill had twelve offspring total, with the first eight while she was at Indian Spring, and then after being sold on or about 1944 to George Dygert, she produced four more foals, all sired by Cornwallis's fine son Allen's Seneca Chief.
