And now Mary's words on Townshend John as told to David Hollis (author)
in his Article "I Was Horses Before Horses Were Popular"

"During the war, I saw an ad in The American Agriculturist, " she says, "for Morgans for sale.  I found the cheapest one - $75 for a stud colt- and I bought it sight unseen.  Well, it was crated up and shipped in on the railroad, the old Erie line, to Kanona.  I picked it up at the station.  It was small.  It was ten months old and hardly as big as a weanling.  Well, I led that colt home and I guess we kept it for four years, bred it to a pinto mare we had, and sold it."
