Interview Conducted in the Spring of 2009
It was with great pleasure and excitement that Mark Langdon, Nancy Vidler and I visited with Mike Goebig and Dwayne Knowles at Broadmoor this past spring. During the creation of previous History Profiles, I'd often seen photos of a young Mike at many of the shows in our region, and usually on a perfectly set up Morgan.
When you talk with Mike - and you'll have the opportunity to hear what he said as you click on the video clips - he makes it clear that watching and learning from the horseman of his youth (Sullivan Davis, Johnny Lydon, Dayton Sumner, Fred Herrick and Joe Parker to name a few) were key to his experimentation and success when training his Morgans. And it's refreshing to hear how he feels that without mistakes, there is no learning, as well as his belief in what he calls "the process" that you work through - with your Morgan - to determine what they are best at.
Visiting with Mike and the folks at Broadmoor is a welcoming, relaxing experience - so much so that when you view our profile, you'll notice a waterfall tinkling in the background (note to Historian to watch for things like that in the future...) and Mike's affectionate but willful cat, who was determined to be included in the interview! After our session we were also treated to a wonderful meal, showcasing another of Mike's talents - his culinary skills.
I'd like to thank both Mike and Dwayne once more for their hospitality, and It's evident to me that they've successfully combined showing World Class Morgan Horses with a warm and friendly environment for their many longstanding and loyal customers.
