Prior to our Trader publication, The Morgan Horse magazine carried a monthly column of "New York State News."  In the beginning years of the club, on through the early 60's, Ruth Rogers was our correspondent.  Here is the lead to her news as published in the July 1960 issue:

"The Buffalo International Horse Show in May resulted in the triumph of the aged stallion Elchem, in the good Morgan division.  The 18-year old Elchem is owned by the Willard Hoefens, of Spencerport and ridden by their teenage son, Mike, who is not yet as old as the stud.  Mike has come a long way in a short time.  The complete understanding and cooperation between these two is both apparent and effective, and the pair are a joy to see in the show ring."
