Many of those that I talk with, including Mike Hoefen, say that it was the National Show in Windsor where they went to learn more about Morgans.

Although many years have passed, Mike still remembers names like Ruth Orcutt, Ted Davis, and the Lippitt Morgans.  The longstanding New England Morgan promoters seemed to welcome any newcomers to the breed, with free advice and a warm smile.

Mantua was a chestnut mare foaled in 1942 (Goldfield x Lady Sealect.) The second registered Morgan at the Hoefen farm,  she was purchased from the United States Morgan Farm in Middlebury, VT, for  the sole purpose of being the Hoefen's foundation broodmare.

With Elchem, Mantua produced:
A chestnut mare; Merrymount Mimsey
A chestnut stallion; Mansfella,
A chestnut stallion; Mandator
and A bay mare; Estar

Mandator, out of Mantua and sired by Elchem (with Willard Hoefen)

Listen to Mike talk about Mandator and the loss of their youngster
