Wally was the owner of
"The Modern Market"
(short history link for the market), a small grocery located
at the center of town in Moravia, NY. One thing that all seem
to agree on is that Wally had a fundamental need to appear as gruff
and frugal as possible, but that he'd give you the shirt off his
back ... as long as you didn't know it came from him. Ev had taught school in the area for over 30 years, and it was her kind manner that many of the then Junior Exhibitors remember to this day. She touched the hearts of Barb, Thalia and Fran, so much so that they talk with great emotion of the influence she had on their lives. In an article published in the 60's, Ev told the story of how
she'd been a horseperson from an early age, riding to school
horseback. Thalia tells of how Ev was a "Rodeo Fans" Champion
Cowgirl. In the below photo you can see a young Ev on her
Morgan gelding Star Bright, and Wally. |
