Ellen Stanton loves her Morgans...

And when she talks about them, there's obvious affection for each and every one of them.  And there's been many that have crossed her path.

One of the things that I enjoyed most about meeting with Ellen - and this was also the case when talking with Dick her husband, and Elaine one of her daughters - was their honesty.  Even with the joy that they had in talking about their horses, they tell the good with the bad, and paint a true picture of each horse's ability and personality.

When you listen to them, you can just imagine what it must have been like to ride "Mo" bareback, or urge "Don" to give just a little more, or smile when "Flair" tried to unseat you.

The Tanglewood story covers lots of ground ...

-We get to visit with Morgan owners that have been active in New York State since 1952 (when they first brought home Allen's Mohawk Chief as a weanling.)

-It's a story of love and commitment - with Ellen and Dick being married and focusing on horses since 1951.

-And also a story of the three daughters and one son - all involved with the family Morgans for many years, and with Lori and Cindy now working horses on a professional level.

And as for Ellen and Dick...well, when I visited with them in January of 2006, they had over 60 horses in the barns, and were on a break from teaching their Syracuse University Equestrian Program - something that they've done for over 24 years.

It was a real treat to be a guest in their home, and to reminisce with them about what it was like to be the caretakers of these wonderful Morgans.  I hope you enjoy as much as I did what they had to share...

* Please read this important note.  To best appreciate what you're about to view you'll want to remember your internet connection when selecting the Audio clips.  If you use a modem and phone line to access the internet, you'll want to select "Dial Up" as the "High Speed" files will take too long to reasonably view.  Unfortunately the "Dial Up" files will be small, and not easily viewed, but you can enjoy the sound by turning on/up your speakers.

Please respect that the photos used are the property of the Stanton family, and any reproduction should be only after receiving permission to download the files.
