Listen to our interview with Bill Lutz - His Oldwick Crusader story... (4 minutes long)

The story started when Bill Lutz and his Uncle purchased a half- Morgan horse from his cousin and he remembers “that got me started.”

After moving to an old farm in Rome, NY, Bill and his wife Carol headed to the 3rd Annual Green Meads Weanling sale in nearby Massachusetts. First they purchased two mares, but as night wore on they stuck around and when a weanling colt out of Upwey Ben Don was led out, $400 was all it took and they found themselves owners of a soon to be young stud.

The Colgate family of New Jersey had named the youngster Oldwick (their prefix for Home farm) as Bill Lutz says “he was the first of their breeding to leave the farm.”

The colt had been an impulse purchase for the Lutz’s so they had to rush home to build a stall for “Wick” as he became known, as they’d only prepared space for the fillies.
