Sue Werdein – NYSMHS Treasurer
Background
Horses have always been a part of my life. I began riding at the age of
2 on my Shetland pony Cornflake. He was purchased for me by my
grandfather who was a trainer of Hackneys and Saddlebreds and he was
fortunate enough to be selected to provide a retirement home for the
last living Cavalry horse to see active duty in the US military. It is
from him that I learned my love for and appreciation of horses,
including the Morgan Horse. In 1972 grampie purchased 6 Morgans from
various NY breeders including several from Long View Farm (Dean and
Virginia Caccamise). His goal was to introduce his grandchildren to a
versatile, sensible and fun horse that could be shown and trail ridden.
My first Morgan was Long View Sunflower (a Ben Don granddaughter). We
did everything from showing to driving to trail riding. My family and I
have had Morgan horses ever since. We own a small farm in West
Bloomfield New York. My main focus has been showing but I also enjoy
trail riding when time and the weather allow and have dabbled with
carriage driving and have done/plan to do some limited breeding. I have
also participated in promotional events at the Genesee Country Museum
and have driven local dignitaries on fund raising/political events
through our local park. My daughter Sara is also growing up with Morgans
and Morgan folks and has been riding since before she could walk and
showing since the age of 4. The New York Morgan community has been like
her second family since she was a baby. Sara received her first Morgan,
Chandelle High Blue Sky- Chandelle High Noon x UVM Vanna, as a Christmas
gift this past year. This is my way of ensuring her continued enthusiasm
for the breed that I have been “in love with” for nearly 40 years.
NY Morgan Horse Society Participation.
I have been a member of the NY Morgan Horse Society for approximately 35
years. I have participated on the NY Morgan Regional Horse Show
Committee and the Western New York Morgan Horse Show Committee. I am
currently a Western District Director.

Why I am running for Treasurer
In addition to my love of the Morgan Horse and my background with
finance, I have always been a supporter of the New York Morgan Horse
Society. I believe that the club offers a networking vehicle for Morgan
enthusiasts and a support and promotion vehicle for both amateurs and
professionals, regardless of the way in which they enjoy their Morgans.
For me it is all about the Morgans, always has been, always will be! If
elected to the office of Treasurer I will continue the work of those who
have held the position before me to ensure fiscal soundness and
responsibility. As a member of the executive board I will do my best to
represent the voice of the members. Thank you for your consideration.
